MANILA, Philippines — Domestic workers in Metro Manila are getting a wage increase of P500 a month.
He was also found guilty of malversation under Article 217 of the Revised Penal Code, for which he received a sentence of reclusion perpetua—20 to 40 years imprisonment—and a fine of P393 million, the amount embezzled.
The chair of the Blue Ribbon Committee, Sen. Pia Cayetano, could choose to make a subcommittee.
This came after the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-National Capital Region (NCR) approved the increase.
The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) said the NCR wage board has issued Wage Order No. NCR-DW-05, which sets the new monthly minimum wage for kasambahays in Metro Manila.
“The new minimum wage for kasambahays in the region is at P7,000 a month, which is P500 higher than the previous rate,” the NWPC said.
Kasambahays in Metro Manila are currently receiving a monthly salary of P6,500.
“All domestic workers in the NCR are covered by the wage order, regardless of their type of employment, whether live-in or live-out,” the NWPC said.
It added, “No exemptions will be allowed.”
